The pain of migraines can cause a person to try almost anything to find relief. It makes no difference if a migraine happens once a month or every few days. The pain is so tremendous that people have gone to extreme lengths to find an answer.
One current trend gaining popularity is called daith piercing. This a piercing of the innermost cartilage fold of the ear. The reason it is thought to help with migraines goes along with acupuncture, and a location believed to help headaches. However, it is important to point out two things. A migraine does not always have a headache accompany it, and it is extremely difficult to find the exact spot an acupuncturist would use unless one is in this profession. But the real question is: Does it work?
There is controversy surrounding daith piercings as a means to care for migraines. Some say it works, while others say it is no help at all. No studies have been conducted to confirm either statement. No acupuncturists have stepped up and said they are behind the theory. It is understandable that the pain of migraines causes one to try almost anything – especially when medication doesn’t work – but there is a natural, long lasting solution many people overlook.
Migraines Relieved by Upper Cervical Care
No one really knows why migraines happen, but a misalignment of the bones of the upper neck vertebrae can certainly create the right conditions under which migraines occur. Therefore, upper cervical chiropractors see great success in helping migraine patients find relief. A study of 101 patients with headaches and migraines who received adjustments to the C1 and C2 vertebrae reported good results. Out of these, 85 had no more headaches after 1 to 8 months of care, while 12 saw reduced symptoms and frequency of headaches. By using a gentle method to realign the bones that are out of place, we have seen positive results with our own patients.
