migraines-skipping-the-medication-but-still-getting-reliefAs many as 39 million people in the USA have migraines. Worldwide, this number jumps to 1 billion. That’s a lot of people and a lot of headaches — and probably a lot of medication to try to help. Many of those who have migraines would like to find an answer for the pain of migraines. But is this answer in medication or can it be obtained by natural means? This article will discuss that very subject.

Medications for Migraines

Seeking care from your medical doctor for migraines will often result in a suggestion of an over-the-counter or prescription medication. Here is a list of some of the common ones used:

  • Anti-depressants: These drugs are often given as an off-label way to try to care for migraines. Side effects include blurry vision, sleepiness, and weight gain.
  • Triptans: These drugs are designed to block serotonin receptors in an effort to mitigate migraines. Imitrex is a very common triptan. Triptans are known to stress the heart and liver and cause strokes.
  • Beta-blockers: While these medications are usually used for people with high blood pressure, they are sometimes given to help migraine patients. They can cause fatigue, heart problems, gastrointestinal issues and depression.

Natural Relief for Migraines

The spine provides protection for the delicate spinal cord. In particular, the C1 and C2 vertebrae are responsible for protecting the brainstem from damage. However, if they are out of alignment, even by just ¼ of a millimeter, they can actually put the brainstem under stress and cause it to malfunction. This has been seen to be connected to a lot of migraines.

We use a gentle method to help realign the bones of the neck back into their original position. We are not required to pop or crack the neck to get results. Our patients often report seeing much success after trying this type of care.
