Vertigo is a type of dizziness in which you feel as if you or the environment surrounding you is spinning. What causes vertigo is still unknown by many healthcare professionals. Symptoms can include disorientation, nausea, vomiting, a ringing sensation in the ears, weakness, and difficulty walking.

Head Trauma and Vertigo

Recent research is unveiling a possible link between head trauma and vertigo. In 2006, a study was performed on 60 people suffering from vertigo. All but four could recall some sort of trauma to the head or neck in their past due to one of the following:

  • Bicycle accidents
  • Skiing
  • Tripping and falling
  • Horseback riding
  • Vehicle accidents

Amazingly, only a few of these injuries were major incidents. Others were quite serious. Either way, this study showed that it does not take a huge injury to cause the upper vertebrae of the neck to misalign. What is also noteworthy about the study is the fact that not all of the accidents reported were recent ones. Some had happened several years before and were just starting to reveal themselves as vertigo.

Relieving Vertigo Naturally

As upper cervical chiropractors, here at Health Edge Family Spinal Care in Glendale, California, we truly understand how important it is to maintain a healthy neck and spine, as the spine protects the spinal cord, the body’s highway for information. An issue with your spine can have far-reaching effects on your body.

We use specific tests to diagnose and confirm whether or not you have a misalignment. Then, we use various methods to measure and pinpoint the exact location of the misalignment. We work to correct this with diverse techniques, allowing the adjustment to last longer and give the body more time to heal.

If a misalignment of the upper neck occurs, the communication between the brain and body can be obstructed. This may result in the sending of mixed signals relating to where the body is located in its environment, leading to the feeling of vertigo. Once the misalignment is corrected, many have reported feeling much healthier and happier!
