Back Pain, Back Surgery, Back Ache It is estimated that six-hundred-thousand people in the United States have back surgery every year. However, the reality is that in many cases it backfires and leaves more pain in its wake. The Spine Journal reported on a study done involving back surgery. The study’s lead author says that it provides clear evidence that fusion surgery does not eliminate pain for many patients.

One such patient is named Nancy. Just one month after having surgery, she again found herself in severe pain. Pain medication barely helped. She had back aches and searing jolts of pain down her leg. This was due to spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the channel in the spine through which nerves pass). Her pain continued to intensify to the point where she felt suicidal. She consulted another surgeon, referred to by her friends as a miracle worker. He told her a second operation would cure her pain. She agreed to it and was pain-free for a few weeks following the surgery. However, the pain came back more intensely than ever.

This is vital information for the twenty-seven million Americans who reported back pain in one recent year. Thirty billion dollars was spent on treatment to ease the pain, with much of that going to back surgeries.

If Surgery Doesn’t Work, What Does?

At Health Edge Family Spinal Care, we recognize the importance of having a healthy spine. This plays a vital role in back pain management. It may seem odd, but a misalignment of the upper neck can actually be the underlying cause of back pain. This is because the entire spine works together as a unit. If a misalignment is found in the upper vertebrae, it can lead to disturbances in nerve flow. This can cause back pain. Once the spine is realigned, problems with posture are corrected. The body can then begin to heal itself naturally, without the use of pain medication or surgery.

We do not pop or twist the spine, but rather use a gentle, effective treatment that may help with back pain and even overall health. Our patients often report long-term relief.
